The case is a reminder that DSCR volume still needs disciplined broker vetting, appraisal review and title scrutiny.
Ameritrust Mortgage has sued investors and mortgage brokers over an alleged Baltimore DSCR fraud scheme that the lender says caused a $14 million loss, according to a HousingWire report published September 14, 2026. The report says the alleged scheme involved DSCR loans, 300% markups, prepackaged appraisals and title gaps.
For producing loan officers and broker owners, this matters because DSCR lending often moves fast and depends heavily on property value, rent support, ownership history and clean title. The lawsuit is not a final finding, but the allegations point directly at the controls lenders and brokers rely on when investor deals look profitable on the surface.
