The national builder-market reading gives loan officers fresh context for purchase conversations, but the monthly estimate came with a wide uncertainty range.

The U.S. Census Bureau reported on July 24, 2026, that sales of new single-family houses in June ran at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 628,000. That was 1.6% above the revised May 2026 estimate of 618,000, according to the New Residential Sales summary.

For mortgage professionals, the report is a useful pulse check on the builder side of the purchase market. But the Census Bureau’s summary also listed a plus-or-minus 14.8% range around the monthly change, which means the headline increase should be used with caution in borrower conversations.
