More available inventory gives mortgage pros a timely reason to re-engage approved buyers who have been waiting for leverage.

New listings rose to their highest level since April, according to a Redfin Real Estate News housing market update published August 27, 2026. Redfin said new listings increased 0.4% from the prior week during the four weeks ending August 23, while the total number of homes for sale rose 0.5% week over week.

For loan officers, the message is practical: the window may be opening for serious buyers who stayed on the sidelines when inventory was tighter. Redfin said fewer buyers are purchasing homes, which can give prepared borrowers a better shot at negotiating price, credits, repairs or other concessions.
