A higher 2027 rate outlook changes how loan officers should frame affordability, refinance expectations, and long-term borrower planning.
The Fannie Mae mortgage rate forecast for 2027 has been raised to 7.5% for the 30-year fixed mortgage rate, according to an Oct. 19, 2026 article from The Truth About Mortgage. The report says Fannie Mae increased that 2027 estimate by 80 basis points between its September and October housing forecast updates.
For mortgage professionals, the move matters because borrowers and referral partners are still looking for signs of when affordability might improve. A higher long-range rate forecast makes it harder to lean on the old “date the rate” conversation without also talking plainly about payment comfort, savings, and whether the loan still works if rates stay elevated.
