HUD’s notice matters because terminated Direct Endorsement approval can affect which lenders may underwrite FHA loans directly.
HUD’s Federal Housing Administration published a September 23, 2026 Federal Register notice under the FHA Credit Watch Termination Initiative, advising the industry of terminations of Direct Endorsement approval for certain HUD-approved mortgagees. The notice says it includes a list of mortgagees that have had their DE approval terminated.
For producing loan officers, this is not a rates story or a guideline tweak. It is an operational and compliance item: if a lender’s Direct Endorsement authority is terminated, FHA production teams, brokers and referral partners need to know how FHA files will be underwritten, submitted and communicated to borrowers.
